Tyler Perry's "Meet the Browns" opened in second place with $20.1 million. On top of the box office charts for the second consecutive week is the Dr. Suess animated film "Horton Hears A Who," which brought in $24.6 million dollars. In "Browns," Angela Bassett stars as a single mom takes her family to Georgia for the funeral of her father -- a man she never met -- and is introduced to the Brown family.
Perry's fifth Lionsgate release in four years enjoyed the highest per-theater average of any film in the top ten bringing in $9,977 from 2,006 locations.
"Meet the Browns" opened lower than Perry's Madea movies and his last film "Why Did I Get Married?," which opened to $21.4 million last October, but higher than "Daddy's Little Girls" ($13.1 million).
