Serena Williams' first trip to India came with a victory in the 600,000-dollar WTA Bangalore Open on Sunday.
The tennis star defeated Patty Schnyder of Switzerland 7-5, 6-3 in the women's final match to earn her 29th career title.
"It was so nice being in India and winning the title made it even better," said Williams, a third seed who had beaten her sister Venus in the semi-finals on Saturday. "A week back I was not even sure I will be able to play, so to win my first title of the year makes it a very special visit."
Serena, ranked 11th in the world, took home a winner's purse of $95,000 in a match lasting an hour and 25 minutes.
