Don Browne Promoted To Telemundo President...

McNamara Steps Down to Pursue Outside Production Opportunities

Don Browne, who has served as Telemundo chief operating officer since May 2003, has been promoted to president; and Telemundo President and CEO Jim McNamara, whose contract is expiring, has stepped down to pursue outside production opportunities. The announcements, which are effective this Friday, April 8, were made today by Randy Falco, President, NBC Universal Television Networks Group, to whom Browne will report.

Browne will assume day-to-day responsibility for the entire Telemundo Network, including operations and programming across its broadcast, cable and studio businesses. A longtime advocate of expanding into the Spanish-language television market, Browne was part of the initial launch of Telemundo Network News in 1987, and a key member of the NBC team involved in the purchase of the Telemundo network.

"Don Browne will make a seamless transition to the role of president," Falco said. "Not only is he an experienced and skilled broadcast executive who played a vital role in our acquisition of Telemundo and its tremendous success the past 22 months, but he has been deeply involved in the Hispanic community for almost 20 years. His relationships and leadership skills will enable him to drive continued growth at Telemundo."

"Jim did a remarkable job leading Telemundo through a period of impressive growth," Falco added. "For some time he has been interested in pursuing outside creative opportunities. We wish Jim all the best and hope to find ways to partner with Jim on some of his new ventures."

Browne said: "Having witnessed first-hand the birth and growth of Telemundo, it is a great privilege and honor to have the opportunity to lead such a talented team, with a clear strategy, at such an exciting time in Spanish-language television. Jim has been an outstanding partner, and his passion, talent and enthusiasm will surely be missed. I will continue the legacy that started 50 years ago - community involvement, excellence in journalism and pioneering innovation - and relentlessly focus on implementing our long-term, 100% original programming strategy, catering to the needs of our Hispanic community and our clients."

Before joining Telemundo, Browne served as President and General Manager of NBC's owned and operated station in Miami, WTVJ- Ch. 6, integrating the first successful NBC and Telemundo station duopoly. Prior to that, he served as Executive Vice President of NBC News in New York. From 1979-89, Browne served as NBC's Miami bureau chief, directing news coverage of Central and South America. Browne has a national reputation for being active in the recruitment and career development of women and minorities and was recently acknowledged with the prestigious Ida B. Wells Award (2004).

Browne currently serves as a board member and is actively involved with the following organizations: Florida Memorial College, Florida Association of Broadcasters, Hispanic Heritage Awards Foundation, American Cancer Society, 5000 Role Models of Excellence, Miami Project to Cure Paralysis, United Way, Do the Right Thing, Women of Tomorrow Inc., Best Buddies, University of South Carolina's School of Journalism, and Florida International University's School of Journalism.

"I am very grateful to all of my colleagues at Telemundo and NBC Universal, and I thank them for their tremendous support during my six years as President and CEO,"said McNamara. "We have had many accomplishments together, and I am especially gratified that we made Telemundo the leader in original content for the U.S. Hispanic audience. With Randy Falco's strong leadership, my partnership with Don Browne and his deep knowledge of and experience in broadcasting, as well as the professionalism of so many talented people at Telemundo, I know the organization will continue to grow dramatically and further thrive in this dynamic industry."
