Take an experienced soulful voice, add the silk of King Cole, the rumple of uninhibited gospel licks, the breeziness of Benson, and the intermittent presence of Pavarotti and you may be able to fathom the elegance and power of this seasoned performer.
Born and raised in Miami Florida, the son of a local church minister, BARRY IVAN WHITE had an early introduction into the world of music. Within the church he began singing and taught himself to play the piano, guitar, bass and drums. His first public performance was at the age of three, and from it, a lifetime of touching hearts through music sprouted.
By the age of 14, BARRY had become choir director and minister of music, exhibiting a unique understanding of the technical side of musical expression as well as vocal harmonization. At the age of 17, BARRY recorded his first album as part of a gospel choir. He then traveled with choirs throughout the United States singing with and opening for famous gospel performers such as Andrae Crouch, The Hawkins Family, The Winans, Shirley Cesar, Candi Staton, James Cleveland, Milton Biggham, and more.
After years of working in gospel music as an artist, producer, and promoter, BARRY IVAN WHITE made the transition to secular with Pop and Soul. He was immediately successful, performing with, presenting or representing great artists such as the late Maestro Barry White, En Vogue, Family Stand, Michael Cooper, The O’Jays, The Temptations, Levert, and others. He co-founded a record label (Tashari Records), producing a recording with female trio “C’est La Vie”.
In 1984, was BARRY IVAN WHITE invited by Papa Jessie Ferguson and Barry Smith to join the internationally renowned group “The Platters”. Now a veteran member of The Platters for over 20 years, BARRY has traveled the world and performed with a multitude of internationally famous artists and appeared in internationally and nationally televised programs. He has entertained a wide genre of people, and by virtue of his linguistic skills and performing, at will, in both English and Spanish, he has become a true cross-cultural entertainer.
Still a current member of The Platters, but limiting his tours to an accumulative 3 months a year, BARRY is having incredible success as a solo performer especially in private galas, corporate events, fundraisers, 5 Star Luxury Resorts (he calls them working vacations), and cultural events internationally. Performing or jamming with artists such as Al Jarreau, Huey Lewis & The News, Leann Rymes, Hootie & The Blowfish, and Phil Driscoll. On the Latin music scene, he has appeared with Los Panchos with Rafael Basurto Lara, Dyango, Jose Jose, Lolita Ayala, Francisco Cespedes, David Torrenz, and Amaury Gutierrez to name a few. One of BARRY’s favorite and most memorable performances was in the Casa Arabesque in Acapulco for the Baron and Baroness Enrique and Sandra D’Portanova where he performed for Luis Miguel, former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, Ricky Martin, Henry Mancini, Shecky Green, Don Johnson, Melanie Griffith, Rebecca De Alba, and other dignitaries.
BARRY makes his home in Miami, and Cancun, Mexico, where he is highly regarded as an astonishing showman with a powerful and soulful vocal delivery which is always accompanied by his ever present charm and contagious smile. He travels an average 10 months each year performing seasonally in some of the worlds most acclaimed jet-set hot spots including Geneva, Marbella, South Beach, Acapulco, Moscow, Havana, Buenas Aires, Cancun and New York among others. One of the highlights of BARRY’s 2004 performances was his production of what is whispered to have been one of the most stellar private events ever in Marbella’s super glam Gala history produced in the jet set mansion of Sasha Alexander where in addition to the over 30 other musicians, singers, and dancers performing in the same evening, he flew in from Northern Mexico and introduced to Europe for the first time ever the nationally |
